How Vagus Nerve Touch Helped Our Powerbreeds Finally Relax
Share
For a long season, most of my energy was focused on my wife’s health. During that time we discovered the vagus nerve — the body’s calm switch that regulates stress, heart rate, digestion, and our ability to feel safe.
We began using vagus nerve exercises to help her nervous system heal.
Then one quiet evening, after another restless night with our dogs nearby, a question suddenly surfaced:
“If humans have a vagus nerve that helps us calm down… what about dogs?”
🐕 The Signs of Stress in Our Dogs
We realised our own stress had also affected them.
We saw subtle but clear signs:
- restless pacing
- resistance to settling
- constant need to be on top of us
- crying when separated
They weren’t “misbehaving”.
They were trying to regulate their nervous system — the only way they knew how.
So we wondered…
Could we gently support their stress, the same way we were supporting ours?
That question changed everything.

🔍 What We Learned About Dogs & The Vagus Nerve
We found that:
- Yes — dogs do have a vagus nerve, much like humans.
- It affects their heart rate, digestion, emotional regulation and calm response.
- Research has not yet provided full instructions for dog-specific therapy —
but the underlying principle is clear:
Calm, predictable touch can help regulate the nervous system.
So we tried adapting what we learned for humans — in the gentlest way possible.
🌿 Our First Attempts — The 2-Minute Ritual
We created a small bonding routine, just once or twice a day:
1️⃣ Invite — don’t grab
Sit or kneel next to your dog.
Let them choose to come closer.
2️⃣ Ear Strokes (15–20 sec each)
Slow stroke from base to tip — steady and calm.
This stimulates the vagus nerve — the body’s natural calm switch.

3️⃣ Chest Circles
Two or three fingers on the breastbone.
Tiny circles — about one per second.

4️⃣ Neck & Shoulder Strokes
Long strokes from under the ear down to the shoulder.
5️⃣ Rib-Cage Strokes
Hand behind the front leg — stroke toward the hip following their breathing.
No commands. No pressure.
Only safety.
Over time, something began to shift…
🧘 What We Noticed During Night-time Meditation
Before we started this routine, any small sound outside — footsteps, car doors, voices — would trigger alarms and barking.
But recently during meditation, something changed:
✔ They may perk their ears…
❌ but they don’t react like before.
With one slow touch — they settle.
Their bodies soften. Their breathing slows.

Our male dog, who used to climb onto the couch every night, now rests beside it — head on my foot, secure but relaxed.
And during bedtime meditations, when I stroke their ears…
I realised something powerful:
When we regulate our nervous system…their nervous system follows.
🧠 What Might Be Happening Inside Their Body
We are not vets or scientists — we are simply guardians who noticed a pattern:
A calmer human leads to a calmer dog.
And calmer dogs begin to listen, connect, and soften.
Studies show the vagus nerve influences:
✔ heart rate
✔ digestion
✔ emotional response
It may also link to anxiety, trauma, behaviour, and rescue-dog recovery.
It is not a medical treatment —
but it is a powerful path for bonding.

🤎 Why We Created Bully Bond Corp
Moments like these are the reason Bully Bond Corp exists.
Our brand isn’t just apparel or coffee — it’s a mission:
To show the world that powerbreeds don’t only need training —
they need connection… calm leadership… and safe humans.
That is why every design we make carries one message:
Bonded not by commands, not by control, but by choice…
by trust… by that quiet moment… when a dog chooses you back.
We call it Paw-sitively Bonding —
because each touch, each look, each soft word
builds a bond long before any training session begins.
A stronger bond creates a calmer dog.
And a calmer dog gets a second chance in this world.
